The University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), through its Africa Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Power and Energy Development (ACE-SPED) recently entered a groundbreaking collaboration with the University of Cape Town intending to foster the integration of two new courses into the Renewable and New Energy Systems (RNES) programme offered by ACE-SPED.

This partnership which focuses on ACE-SPED and is known as Transforming Energy Access Learning Partnerships (TEA-LP) seeks to address the pressing need for skilled professionals in Africa’s burgeoning energy access sector.

Both parties agree that this collaboration represents a crucial step in bridging the skills gap in Africa’s rapidly-growing energy access sector and equipping postgraduate students with the knowledge and expertise required to drive sustainable energy development and foster positive change in Africa. It also holds the promise of transforming the future of energy access on the continent.

In another development, ACE-SPED has delivered a five-day professional short course at the Regional Centre of Energy and Environmental Sustainability (RCEES) in Sunyani, Ghana. This is in line with its commitment to advancing sustainable power and energy development in Africa.

Themed ‘Energy Management in Industry and Homes’, the course provided comprehensive insights into effective energy management practices both in industrial settings and residential homes. The course covered various aspects of energy utilisation, conservation, and sustainable practices to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to address energy challenges in their respective domains.

A total of 65 participants, mostly students of RCEES, registered and actively participated in the sessions. They demonstrated an eagerness to enhance their understanding of energy management. They also had the opportunity to observe energy management techniques in action and engage in hands-on activities, deepening their understanding of the subject matter.
