The Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards (CE-sPESS) of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has concluded a 40-hour Executive Training Workshop in Tracks A and B for about 700 professionals at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Enugu State.

The programme, which took place recently was organised for professionals from different fields of endeavour resident in the State and its environs.

The Workshops were carried out concurrently on both the Nsukka and Enugu campuses of the UNN, with each of the training venues witnessing a great turnout of participants, comprising civil and public servants, legal practitioners, procurement officers, entrepreneurs, members of the academia, and captains of industries, among others.

A participant, Dr. Mrs. Theodora Njoku, who is also a lecturer at the University, described the Workshop as an “eye-opener” in Procurement, Environmental, and Social Standards Enhancement issues.

The training, conducted in partnership with the African Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Power Energy and Development (ACE-SPED) of the UNN, recorded a tremendous success.

Speaking at the opening ceremony at the Nsukka Campus, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the UNN, Prof. Romanus Ezeokonkwo thanked the CE-sPESS Management Team for choosing the University as its venue.

Prof. Ezeokonkwo told the participants that they were lucky to be among the trainees because each of them was about to receive a training worth over 200, 000 naira, free of charge.

In her Goodwill Message, the Vice-Chancellor of FUTO, Prof. Mrs. Nnenna N. Oti congratulated the CE-sPESS and ACE-SPED for the lofty partnership, while appreciating the Management of the UNN for the opportunity granted the FUTO team.

Prof. Oti, who was represented by the CE-sPESS Program Coordinator Dr. Mrs. Sarah Umeh wished the two Centres greater collaborations, dividends, and more exploits in the years ahead.

Earlier, the Director of ACE-SPED, Prof. Emenike Ejiogu informed that the gathering was targeted at training professionals from the private and public sectors as mandated by the World Bank and the National Universities Commission (NUC).

In her address, the Director of CE-sPESS, FUTO, Engr. Prof. Gloria Chukwudebe thanked the Management of the UNN, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Enugu Campus (UNEC), Prof. Nwachukwu while giving a brief history of the SPESSE Project.

In his Goodwill Message, the National Coordinator of the SPESSE & ACE Projects, Dr. Joshua Attah, who attended virtually commended the teams from the UNN and FUTO for the laudable outing. Dr. Atah, represented by Mr. Peter Tobrise, enjoined the participants to take the Workshops seriously which will enable them to key into the moving train.

Present at the event were the Enugu State Head of Service and the Rector of the Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Enugu.

As part of the CE-sPESS’ tradition, the Workshops on both campuses concluded formally with a Closing Ceremony and issuance of Completion Certificates to eligible participants.
